Emma Eats at Friday's

Emma at spaghetti off the kid's menu at Friday's over the weekend. This was the first time that she has ever done this. For the past 4 years I have always had to puree her food, so we don't eat out that much. I usually have to take her food into the restaurant in a Thermos. She has always had a bunch of oral motor issues!! This weekend all I did was chop it up with a fork and feed her. She was so proud of herself, and it felt great to be like a normal family for a change. Now, if we can get her arms working better, maybe she can feed herself one of these days!!! That will be a bragging post that I can't wait to share!!

YAY EM!!!!!!!! Logen is FINALLY to the point we can order a burger and fries and him and Parker can share it. Granted, Parker is cleaner and gets more in his mouth than Logen does- which is totally screwed up since Logen is almost 5 and Parker isn't even 2 yet, but we are getting there.

Here's another suggestion-- when we were still pureeing most of Logen's food or mashing it up like crazy, we'd order him a sweet potato, backed potato, mashed potatoes, or mac n cheese- I also always ask if they have steamed veggies and if they can extra extra steam them so they are so super soft they fall apart when you pick them up- if they will do that, those mash well, or chop up where Em could most likely handle it. We'd also mix a little of our meat with his potatoes. Adam or I would cut TINY peices up and mix it in, he wouldn't have to chew it and it was a sneaky way to get him some protein. HTH!

Way to go, Emma!! We're just at that stage too. Joshie would ALWAYS order Mac N Cheese...the soft pasta was easy for him. We are now up to Grilled Cheese!! YAY!! Like Jess said, kinda sucks cause he's almost 5 & here's Mia (18 months) & eating EVERYTHING!!!
Great job, Emma!! Keep it up, sweetie!!!

Thanks girls. I knew you would get it!! Those are awesome ideas. We took her to the zoo, and on the way back she at a White Castle hamburger. I had to pull it apart in tiny little pieces, and she had to chase it with water--but it worked. That was like her first hamb urger ever with a bun. The water helped the bun from like getting stuck to the roof of her mouth. But, I see she can do this and I am feeling more froggy to try new things.

Great job Emma!! I think that's fabulous!! I am doing the same thing with Sam now with the meat in the mashed potatoes like Jess said...
Keep it up, Emma! :)

Way to go, Emma! That's huge!! Malayna does okay with a McDonalds burger if she has a milk shake with it. It's thick enough that the food doesn't slide down too easily and it helps her move the food along. Just another idea.

Wow Sheila, that is a great idea. Why didn't I ever think of that???

I'm late to the party (always am LOL)... but I wanted to say that's AWESOME!! It's so great to be able to go out and not have to worry about the over-planning of it all!! I can't wait to hear when the self-feeding gets easier and you can share that as well. Way to go Emma!!!

Oh thanks ladies. It always makes me feel good when you all give such wonderful feedback. It motivates me, even when times are tough. Thank you so much!! I feel like I can brag about little stuff, and I know you all get it. When I told some of my family, it was like, "Well that's fine, but it will really be great when she can feed herself." Duh, they don't even get it. It's like I am just happy when she poops with intervention, if you know what I mean, and I get bugged about needed to put her in panties and getting her potty trained. It means so much to have you all understand that little things count too.

Where Are You?
